By now, many of you have heard about the dockworker’s strike from social media, the news, or asking where all the toilet paper went! The part of the reporting that stuck out the most was the pay issue. The dock worker’s industry realized an 800% increase in profits during COVID, and the dock workers did not share in the wealth, But there was also a different issue still in negotiations – robots.
Dockworkers wanted to make sure robots would not replace them. Some ports use them. One of my trucker friends told me he liked them. He said it was quick and efficient. He was able to get in and out faster than ever! Robots can also run 24 hours a day without breaks, food, or anything else we humans need.
It will be interesting to see how this situation ends. While we love technology, we also understand the importance of humans.
